The ABA Medi-Cal benefit in Los Angeles County is administered by a number of MCOs (Managed Care Organizations), including Anthem Medical, Blue Shield Promise Health Plan, LA Care, MHN (HealthNet), and others. We are contracted with almost all MCOs in LA County. It’s worth noting that, generally, Medi-Cal beneficiaries below the age of 21 years are able to access ABA therapy with a recommendation from a licensed physician or psychologist with a statement of medical necessity.

Joanne Alvarez, received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from CSUN and currently serves as the Clinical Director for Autism Learning Partners. Joanne experience includes, supervising after school playgrounds and it was through her experience working with children that she was advised to continue in the field and work with children with special needs to get a better understanding of the community. She started her career as a Behavior Therapist and she fell in love with ABA. In the 14 years that she has been in the field, she has worked as a Behavior Therapist, a Staff Trainer, a Supervisor, and now a Director. She is passionate about this field and enjoys the people she’s worked with, including colleagues and families. Joanne pursued her BCaBA and later completed a master’s program in Applied Behavior Analysis at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology where she graduated in 2014 and obtained her BCBA. Joanne is continuously learning and grateful for having an opportunity to work within her community every day.

We do not provide support with academics, such as homework, reading, etc. However, if the child shows behaviors during these activities, we would provide support around the behavior (i.e. compliance, transitions, attending, etc.).
Yes, but parents/guardians must be involved and are required to run the majority of the program. We work with our families to provide techniques that can be used at home and outside of sessions.
Therapy sessions could take place in your home or community environment, depending on what the ALP Clinical team recommends, and if the school and insurance provides approval.
